METALOFT

Documentation en français | Launch the game

METALOFT is currently in Public Beta Phase. The mechanics of the game as well as the content of this wiki can still evolve in order to improve the experience and the pleasure of the player.

What is METALOFT ?

METALOFT is pigeons race simulation game leveraging the blockchain technology, the NFT potential and the play-to-earn model.

The game simulates the management of a colony of racing pigeons, including care, sports preparation, breeding, competition schedule, etc.

During your free registration, you receive a loft and a team of six pigeons. Follow this starter guide to quickly learn how to care for, breed and race your pigeons. All these operations can be done completely free of charge.

The objective of the game is to allow players to generate gains by devoting 5 to 10 minutes a day to the preparation of their team. The bets placed by the players are fully paid back to the players in the form of rewards according to the performance of their pigeons. The higher the number of participants, the greater the earnings.

The in-game currency is the LOCO which can be exchanged for the digital dollar USDT. 1 LOCO = 0.1$.

The better the pigeons perform, the more money the player can earn in races. It is possible to mint your best pigeons to sell them on the Market Place. A pigeon can acquire value through its sporting performances or through its pedigree, if it is intended for breeding.

Only the WEB version of the game is currently available. A 3D Unity version is in the works. It will immerse the player in a metaverse and add crafting and farming possibilities.

METALOFT is a module part of the PiRcube software suite, offering services to pigeon fanciers since 2012.

Launch the game

Quick Start Guide

You start the game by receiving a loft with 8 pigeonholes and 6 pigeons. Each rack can accommodate 2 pigeons. You can drag and drop your pigeons into a hole. If you place a male and a female together, they will mate during the next cycle (rings will appear btween them). You will then be able to place a nest in their pigeonhole and let them breed a youngster.

It is essential to feed your pigeons in order to keep them in the best of their health. If you place a nest in a hole where there are two mated pigeons, they will produce an egg after a few cycles. This egg will then become a youngster, then a pigeon which will join the colony. Each step has an increasing positive impact on the couple's motivation.

All of these status updates occur during the cycle change. There are 2 cycles per day. First one at 9am CET and a second at 9pm CET. Duration of each cycle is therefore 12 hours.

Each pigeon has a unique ring number and a name that can be changed. A gauge is visible under the pigeon to show its level of health and motivation.

You can go to the Market Place to buy different products that will have beneficial effects on your colony. The internal currency of the game is the LOCO. 1 LOCO = 0.1$ and this exchange rate will remain fixed.

Click on the Inventory button to drag your purchased products onto your pigeons or to deposit some material on the floor of the loft.

Click on a pigeon to open its complete and detailed information sheet. Each specimen has a series of unique characteristics. Some have a base value inherited from parents at birth (IV) and a value that changes with experience (EV). These values are decisive in the calculation of the performance of the pigeons during races or in its propensity to transmit its characteristics to its offspring.

In the sheet, click on the heart to see the active bonuses from which the pigeon benefits. Click on the hand to access different commands such as renaming the pigeon, feeding it, moving it to the birdcage or to sell it.

If your pigeons are properly cared for, click on Races in the menu to register your pigeons for their first training.

At the top of the opened races page, you will find the countdown of time until the next cycle. The races take place at the end of the inter cycle. The pigeons therefore benefit from care during the night and compete in the morning, at the start of the new cycle.

Choose a race (or training) in which you want to basket (i.e. register) your pigeons and click on the button Basketing.

The cost of bets depends on the competition category. Trainings are free. There are different types of bets. Only the bet by three is mandatory. All bets placed by players are returned to the players. The more participants there are, the higher the earnings will be.

Parameters such as the distance, the strength and direction of the wind or the visibility influence the progress of the races. Knowing the profile of your pigeons will allow you to better choose which pigeon should participate in which race.

Once the race is over, you will find all your results in the Results page accessible in the menu. Click on Ranking to view the full ranking of the competition.

You can also click on Stats to analyze the performance of your pigeons. These statistics will allow you to understand that a pigeon which is good on short distance races is not necessarily as good on long distance races. And vice versa. You will also find in this window the progress made by your pigeons, as well as the residual negative effects of the efforts produced.

If your pigeons are properly cared for, they should be able to compete in one race every cycle. If you manage to motivate them well, they should earn you good rewards.

Championships are updated automatically and display the ranking of the best players and the best pigeons. Rewards are distributed every month to the best performing players.

It is advisable to read the rest of the documentation in order to fully understand the mechanics of the game and to perfect your pigeon fancier skills.

The loft

Your loft is the nerve center of your colony. You start with 8 pigeonholes and 6 pigeons. Each rack can accommodate 2 pigeons. The new pigeons joining the colony appear on the floor of the loft, i.e. in the frame under the holes.

Ensure you have read the quick start guide before diving into the game.

If you breed youngsters and have all holes occupied, you can buy additional lofts and holes to place your new pigeons. Each loft can host a maximum of 8 pigeonholes.

You can drag and drop your pigeons in a hole or on the ground. Pigeons spending a night on the ground suffer a motivation penalty. If you place a male and a female together in the same hole, they will mate. Once mated, if you place a nest between them, they will raise a youngster.

Click on Inventory to make it appear. You can also move it to facilitate the transfer of products or equipment to your loft. Depending on the type of product, you can drag and drop it directly…

  • on a pigeon (e.g. food, vitamins, vaccine…),
  • on the ground (e.g. food dispenser, ventilation system…),
  • on a hole (the nests),
  • or on another material (the food in the dispenser).

Click on a pigeon to open its detailed information sheet. This sheet provides a wealth of information:

  • The ring number (unique) and the name of the pigeon.
  • The characteristics of the pigeon. Some have a base value inherited from parents at birth (IV) and a value that changes with experience (EV).
  • The references and characteristics of the parents.
  • Gains and race performances. Only the best results of the pigeon are displayed on the sheet.

In the sheet, click on the heart to see the active bonuses from which the pigeon benefits. These bonuses can temporarily increase the maximum health or motivation and result from the current situation of the pigeon (breeding, equipment laid out on the floor of the loft…).

Click on the hand to access different commands:

  • Rename the pigeon.
  • Feed it. You can feed it several times per cycle. Food will accumulate and be consumed on subsequent days.
  • Move it to another loft or to the birdcage.
  • Sell it.

Click on the loft name to rename it.

Click on the arrows next to the name to move to another loft.

Characteristics of pigeons

Each pigeon is born with a series of characteristics that it inherited from its parents and grandparents. Most of these characteristics can increase or decrease depending on the circumstances.

Weight

The weight of a pigeon varies between 300 and 400 grams. The lighter a pigeon is, the better it will perform in long distance races. Conversely, the heavier (and more powerful) a pigeon is, the faster it will be in short distance races. A pigeon always loses a bit of weight after racing, but nothing a serving of food and a good night's sleep can fix. If a pigeon is basketed when it has not regained its normal weight, it will suffer a handicap.

Endurance

Endurance is increasingly important as distance increases. The pigeons become more and more enduring with the number of races and the acquired endurance never decreases again.

Orientation

Performance is directly proportional to the ability to orient. This characteristic is even more decisive in short distance races. The orientation sharpens with the number of races and never decreases.

Breeding

The breeding quality of a pigeon represents its propensity to transmit its characteristics to its offspring. This value is written in his genes and never changes.

Strain

Lineage pigeons are the result of many generations of crosses with the aim of fixing certain characteristics. A pigeon strain often produces the same type of pigeons, among which are often born great champions.

Experience

Participation in races allows pigeons to gain ever more experience. This progression is logarithmic. Acquired XP are never lost again. Beyond 200 races, performances begin to slowly deteriorate due to the age of the pigeon.

Health

The health of a pigeon is very variable. Many factors can influence health positively or negatively. If a pigeon takes part in a race when it is not at 100% of its health, it will suffer a handicap. Some means available to the pigeon fancier make it possible to increase the maximum health during a certain number of cycles.

Motivation

Just like health, different events can influence motivation up or down. For example, the maximum motivation value increases significantly in pigeons that breed a youngster. A high motivation is decisive in the performances of a pigeon.

Races

The Opened races page, accessible from the menu, gives the list of races in which your pigeons can participate during the current cycle. These races take place at the beginning of the next cycle and a new series of races is created for each new cycle.

First let's debunk a false belief.

In real pigeon races, the pigeons do not start from a starting line to fly to a finish line. The pigeons are basketed, I.e. put in large baskets which are then transported by truck to the place of release. On the morning of competition day, they are all released at the same time and each return to their own loft. During international races, several tens of thousands of pigeons are released in a few seconds.

The time of their arrival is recorded electronically and allows their flight time to be known. We also know the coordinates of the liberation place and those of each loft. With all this information, we can calculate the distance traveled by each pigeon, its flight time and thus, its speed. A ranking is then produced by sorting the pigeons according to their speed. This is calculated in meters per minute (m/m). The speed of racing pigeons often varies between 800 and 1600 m/m. It largely depends on the weather conditions.

The categories

There are several categories of races ranging from simple training sessions to champions competition. The first categories have a maximum XP limit in order to allow young pigeons to compete with each other. The cost of bets also varies depending on the category. The trainings are totally free but do not bring any earnings. Betting on your champions is more expensive but can pay off big.

The trainings always count a number of AI pigeons with a quality ranging from low to medium-good. This allows you to gauge the strength of your pigeons and whether they are ready to move up to the next category.

The basketing

The choice of races should be made according to the profile of your pigeon, for example:

  • What is the distance of the race ? The power of a heavy pigeon will express itself better over a short distance, while its weight will be a handicap over long distances. The longest distances require extraordinary endurance; but excellent orientation gives the pigeon an advantage over short distances. Etc…
  • What are the weather conditions ? A headwind will favor enduring pigeons, while they will be less advantaged with a tailwind. Poor visibility or side wind will favor pigeons with a good orientation. Stormy weather can make performance more hazardous. Etc…

To register your pigeons for a competition, click on Basketing. A new page allows you to tick the pigeons you want to basket. The bet by 3 is compulsory and automatically selected. Check the other bets if you want to bet more on some of your pigeons. Then click on Validate basketing. The bet amount will be deducted from your balance and you will return to the list of races. As long as the cycle is not complete, you can always return to the race page to modify the bets or entries.

The bets

All the bets placed by the players are paid to the players according to the principle in force in real pigeon races. This principle works according to the following formula.

Reward per N: the first (N)th of the pigeons shares the sum of the bets per N. For example, among 1000 pigeons participating in the competition in the Champion category (cost of the bet=10 LOCO), 300 carry the Reward bet by 6. Among these 300 pigeons, the 50 (300/6) fastest will each win 60 LOCO (6 * 10 LOCOs).

Another example, 2000 pigeons carry the Reward bet by 20. The first 100 among these 2000 pigeons will each earn 1000 LOCO.

The POT is a bet of another type: only the very first pigeon carrying the POT bet receives all of the bets placed in the pot. It is in a way the jackpot of the race.

The bet per 3 is mandatory. This means that in all races, the first third of pigeons in the ranking always wins three times the cost of the bet.

The result

Click on Results in the menu to view the ranking and performance of your pigeons in completed races. The page gives you an overview of your profit and loss.

In the table, click on Ranking to view the complete ranking of the competition. This page displays information about your competitors, such as their bets, their earnings, the number of basketed pigeons, etc…

Click on Stats for a detailed report on your performance in this race. For each pigeon, you will find the value of its characteristics and in bold, the positive or negative impacts of the competition. Trainings do not count towards the total number of races or successes. Also, only a ranking among the first third of pigeons counts as a success.

The bottom of the table provides information on the overall quality of the pigeons that took part in the competition. For each characteristic, you will find the lowest, highest, and average value. This allows you to evaluate your pigeons compared to the competitors.

Championships

When you basket your pigeons in races, you automatically participate in the various championships and are likely to win rewards.

There are two types of rankings accessible via the menu:

  1. The Championship classifies the best players.
  2. The AS Pigeons gives the ranking of the best pigeons.

These rankings are automatically updated after each cycle and can be consulted on a monthly, weekly or general basis.

At the beginning of each month, rewards are given to the best players in the championship of the past month; as well as to the players with the highest ranked pigeons on this monthly ranking.

The breeding

In pigeon racing, the income of professionals comes more from the sale of pigeons than from winnings from races. Several Belgian pigeons have sold for up to 1.6 million euros in recent years. Pigeon breeding is a tradition rooted in Belgium, but also in the Netherlands and northern France. The value of a pigeon is not only measured by its sporting record, but also by its pedigree. When mating pigeons in the game, METALOFT reproduces this pattern, respecting the laws of genetics as closely as possible.

If you place a male and a female in the same box, rings will appear at the change of cycle and will confirm that the pigeons are well coupled. If you place a nest in their hole, an egg will appear after a few cycles. Again a few cycles later, the egg will turn into a youngster and then become a new pigeon present in the loft. Each step in this process increases parents motivation. The cycles in which the parents are breeding a youngster are perfect times to place bigger bets on these pigeons.

When a new pigeon from a breeding appears in the loft, it has its own characteristics, inherited individually from its parents and grandparents. Each characteristic will be inherited from one of his ancestors at random, with an additional probability of benefiting from an improvement in the characteristic, or not. The more a pigeon has a high breeding coefficient, the more likely it is that it will be chosen to pass on its characteristics. Some characteristics evolve with experience, but it is always the basic value that is transmitted to the offspring. There are only two ways to increase the quality level of your colony. The easiest way is obviously to introduce new pigeons with superior characteristics. The second is to produce a constant breeding with its best pigeons in order to generate superior offspring to their parents. As is always the case with genetics, success is not guaranteed, but the probability of releasing a top quality pigeon exists mathematically.

Certain pigeons of great lines will be regularly put on sale in the Market Place. These pigeons are the result of dozens of generations of crosses between the best pigeons from the best colonies. This targeted and methodical breeding results in the fixing of important genes. As a result, in addition to possessing above-average qualities, these pigeons also benefit from an exceptional breeding coefficient.

My pigeon list

Click on My pigeons in the menu to have an overview of all your pigeons.

This My pigeon list page allows you to visualize the detailed sheets of all your colony and helps you to compare your pigeons between them.

You can sort the list by any available characteristics.

The birdcage

You can move a pigeon from its loft to the birdcage. The pigeons placed in the birdcage keep a low but constant health and motivation. They no longer require care and can be forgotten for some time. They can then be returned to their original loft at any time. In the birdcage, the health and motivation are maintained at a sub-optimal level.

To move a pigeon to the birdcage,

  • click on this pigeon to open its complete and detailed information window,
  • click on the hand to display the command panel,
  • click on the Move to birdcage button,
  • confirm the operation to send the pigeon to the birdcage.

You can see the list of your pigeons present in the birdcage by clicking on Birdcage in the menu.

To reinstate a pigeon into its loft, click on the arrow and confirm.

The Market Place

You will find in the Market Place 3 tabs offering different functionalities:

  1. The STORE provides a series of care products for your pigeons and equipments to improve your loft. Some products are sold per pack, have a shelf life, or have a limit in the number of units per loft. All this information is included in the table displayed.
  2. The PIGEONS tab lists the pigeons put up for sale by other players. Pigeons of different quality levels can also be put up for sale by the game system. The price of these pigeons is proportional to their qualities. The list can be sorted according to several criteria and filtered according to the characteristics sought. To acquire a pigeon, click on Buy and confirm the transaction. The pigeon will be immediately transferred to your loft and the cost will be deducted from your balance.
  3. You can find in the HIST. part all the history of your transactions: your pigeons sold, bought and currently put up for sale. For the latter, you can click on Modify to change the sale price of your pigeon or withdraw it from the sale.

Sell a pigeon

The Sell command is available in the data sheet and allows you to put your pigeon up for sale. You must always have at least 6 pigeons in your colony. You will therefore only be able to sell a pigeon if you have at least 7 of them.

In the selling interface, set the price in LOCO (minimum 10), click on Sell, then confirm the operation. The pigeon will then appear in the Market Place and will be available for purchase by other players. During the purchase transaction, a 2% fee will be applied, with a minimum of 1 LOCO.

Once put up for sale, your pigeon remains available in your loft and can continue to participate in races. It will only disappear from your colony when it has been purchased by another player.

You can also decide to sell your pigeon at Lier pigeon market. This option allows you to execute the sell transaction for a fixed amount of 10 LOCO instantly and free of charge.

Tokenomy

The internal currency of METALOFT is the LOCO (Loft Coin). Its value is fixed at $0.1.

LOCOs allow you to buy products, equipment or pigeons in the Market Place and bet on your pigeons.

They also allow you to exchange your earnings for USDC digital dollars, which can in turn be resold for fiat currency such as Euros or Dollars.

You can also buy LOCOs with € or $ using your bank card. However, to resell your LOCOs and recover your fiat currency earnings, you will have to go through a digital wallet.

If you are new to cryptocurrency, go to this page to find tutorials and guides that will help you install and use your first crypto wallet.

In 2023, an ERC20 governance token will be created. The LOCO can be exchanged for this token with an exchange rate that will automatically adapt in order to maintain the value of the LOCO at a fixed value of $0.1. An ERC721 contract will also be created to offer the possibility of transforming certain pigeons or other game items into NFT.
